I would think that keeping the foot in dorsi flexion instead of planter flexion would allow you to utilize the stretch shortening cycle a lot more effeciantly, while still contactin upper third(ball) of foot. Dorsi flexion of the ankle is closer to getting the foot/ankle articulations in a closed packed position therefore creating more stability
