John Burroughs High School Basketball SPARQ Testing
Burbank, CA- Testing of LA-area basketball programs concluded today at Burbank's John Burroughs High School. We tested 41 basketball players from a program that has enjoyed recent success on both the boys and girls side. The boys finished with a 17-12 record last year, while the girls set a school record for wins with a 22-6 record.

The Indian boys team scored a team rating of 77.04, while the girls finished with a 58.01 rating. Lead by his team-leading scores in the 20-Meter Dash (2.95 secs.), endurance jump (72 jumps), agility drill (5.40secs.), and power ball throw (64' - tied with Chris Smith), Charles Barrett lead his team with one of the top SPARQ ratings in Southern California - 80.95. Senior guard Chris Smith and junior center Cameron Blocker each finished with elite ratings as well, scoring 79.58 and 79.56, respectively. Junior guard Jeff Dumas proved to be his team's best leaper with a 35.7" vertical jump.
Sophomore center Paislee Holgate was the leading overall scorer for the girls with a 60.35 overall rating, lead by a 6.19 second agility drill. Junior guard Danielle Scott had a 43' power ball throw, while freshman guard Justice Shank lead her team in three tests - endurance jump (74), vertical jump (23.6'), and 20-Meter Dash (3.38secs).
Head girls coach Vicky Oganyan said the testing matched several of the drills that she has her athletes do, "We do a lot of conditioning where we work on their agility and jumping." She was asked about the I AM MY TEAM, MY TEAM IS ME slogan and replied, "Even though individually you bring talent to your team, ultimately your team is who you are."
Barrett said the goal for the team is to win a state championship and said the way to get there will be for "everyone to stay focused, everyone playing each game to win and everyone playing their hearts out."
A man who goes by the name "C Smooth," Chris Smith, said that the team "has a lot of talent" and can accomplish their goals with "dedication and the will to win."
The SPARQ West team will make its final stop in LA at the Surf City OC Bat Buster Showcase - train hard!
